PC Shipments Fell in The First Quarter in 2023

Shipments of personal computers (PCs) declined in the first quarter, weak demand, additional inventory, and concerns about large economic conditions.

The technology research firm is according to the IDC, which reported a total of 56.9 million PC global shipments in the first three months of 2023, a 29% decline from the same period last year.

The IDC reported that the drop brought the shipment in line with the levels seen just before the demand increases during the epidemic, as Lockdown motivated employees and students to upgrade their machines for remote work and school.

Apple posted the largest annual slide among top PC manufacturers, declining the shipment of computers by 40.5%. This was followed by Dell Technologies (-31%), Lenovo (-30.3%), Asus (-30.3%), and HP (-24.2%).

Too Much Inventory

"Though channel inventories have come down over the past few months, they are still well above the healthy four to six week range," said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager at IDC.

He added that even with big discounts, the channel and PC makers can expect higher inventory levels through the middle of the year and possibly even into the third quarter.
